With that, here are some do’s and don’ts before leaving for the airport to avoid getting into trouble with the law or receiving hefty fines for carrying a vape pen in your carry-on luggage or a jacket pocket:
The do's of flying with a vape pen
Taking a drag from a favorite vape could be one of the best feelings for vapers, but unfortunately, not all airports and countries share this sentiment. For this reason, vapers should remember the following do's before visiting a vape pens store and packing their things for their upcoming trip:
Pack only 100ml of the vape juice in a carry-on, wrapped inside a liquid-proof bag or plastic case specifically for the vape, as it should prevent any problems with leaking.
Find out the airline or airport regulations regarding vaping before packing vaping equipment.
Check the laws, rules, and regulations for the country or area you are traveling to. Some countries and regions have banned vaping. Anyone carrying vaping pens or other equipment could have their devices confiscated, receive a hefty fine, or face jail for going against them.
Declare the e-cig or products if asked for by any airport officials. Depending on the area of travel or the airline's specifications, some security personnel could ask the vaper to declare their vape pen when going through a checkpoint.
Take nicotine alternatives like a patch or gum on long flights to prevent feelings of unease while traveling. At least the person will get their nicotine hit until they can use their vape pen again.
It’d be good to note as well that while some airlines and countries would allow you to bring your vape gear with you, vaping on airplanes won’t be allowed, but some airports have designated smoking areas. With that, ensure you familiarize yourself with airport regulations to avoid penalties.
The don'ts of flying with a vape pen
Even with all the do's, there are some don'ts to remember before traveling. These include:
Never pack batteries or liquids in the check-in luggage that goes into the cargo hold. The change in air pressure could cause them to explode and start a fire onboard the airplane. Moreover, luggage handlers could also confiscate it should they find it in your luggage during the x-ray or airport security check.
Avoid traveling with a full tank of e-juice, as it could cause a spill onto clothes or other items in your carry-on bag because of the pressurized cabin. So, if possible, ensure that the tank is half full or empty to be safe. Also, ensure you seal it properly.
Don’t forget to pack enough pre-filled pods, chargers, spare batteries, or liquid, as this could leave you looking for a vape shop in a foreign area. Another reason not to forget these items is that some countries could have a limit on the nicotine level of the vape products they sell. Travelers with a more robust nicotine level could thus struggle to find something similar.
Don’t bring with you CBD or THC-containing products, as some countries have stringent laws regarding those types of products. On the other hand, some would allow Epidiolex (a CBD-containing medication for seizures) if the person has a prescription, but vaping products could be prohibited. Alternatively, opt to pack disposable devices without these substances.
Refusing to cooperate when asked about electronic devices like vape pens will put suspicion on a traveler causing the security personnel to investigate further and delay the itinerary unnecessarily.
